Obesity can happen to anyone, adults or children. Obesity can lead to worse problems in children, such as health or social problems when dealing with friends. Additionally, individuals who suffer from obesity as a child, potentially suffer from obesity at the age of adulthood, and the risk of a number of serious health problems like heart disease and stroke.
Being overweight can be avoided early on. Here are some ways of preventing obesity in children by age category:
- Ages 0-1 years
Breastfeeding was able to prevent excess weight gain in infants. Although the exact mechanism is unknown, breast-fed infants believed to be more able to control food intake and hunger instinct.
- Ages 2-6 years
Begin to teach your child good eating habits by introducing a variety of healthy foods. Encourage children to be active and help him build a variety of expertise.
- Age 7-12 years
Encourage children to be diligent in doing physical activity every day, such as playing soccer with peers, playing basketball, or play bike. If possible, could also register as a member of any sports club.
At home too, do not let kids idle without doing anything. Invite them to do physical activity, such as cleaning house, playing in the yard, and so forth.

Adolescents are usually very fond of fast food, but try to change this trend by providing healthier snack options, like grilled chicken sandwiches and salads. Also, make sure to limit calorie allotment by presenting small portions at each meal. Do not forget, also encourage them to be more active every day.
- All ages
Reduce interaction with television, computers, and video games, and avoid eating food in front of the screen. Serve a variety of healthy food choices and make the feeding activity as part of a ritual family togetherness.
Serve fruit instead of snacks, and make sure they eat fruits and vegetables in adequate portions. Also limit your consumption of drinks that contain sugar or artificial sweeteners. Do not forget to serve a healthy breakfast every morning.
