Dentists claim that drinking herbal teas can cause damage to the tooth. Researchers at the University of Bristol Dental School states herbal tea can erode tooth enamel or outer layer of teeth.

The researchers have measured the average acidity of the various types of herbal tea and found different levels of acidity in each type of these herbal teas. Some teas contain relatively low levels of pH which means that this tea is acidic and tends to damage the teeth.

While the tea which had a high pH tends to contain alkaline and not harmful to dental health. But of all the studies the researchers said that many herbal teas that can damage the email or the protective outer layer of the tooth. Even some types of tea have a devastating three-fold higher than orange juice.

“Many herbal teas studied tends to destroy more tooth decay than orange juice,” said one researcher.
